What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Modern car keys have unique chips that are specific to each vehicle, which is not the case with older keys. This prevents thieves from simply taking the key and putting it in the car.

The keys are usually bought from a dealer or cloned by locksmiths. The manufacturer's process varies however, it involves turning the ignition key to the "on" position without starting the car and then removing the key after a specified time period.

Transponder Codes

When a transponder gets interrogated it transmits a signal encoded with an eight-digit code. This signal, called a SQUAWK Code is used to identify aircraft on radar screens. It is also used to transmit specific messages to the air traffic control system in the event of an emergency or to inform controllers of changing weather conditions. VIN Numbers

VIN numbers are used to identify vehicles and provide a wealth of information about them. VIN numbers are unique for each vehicle on earth and are not applicable to alien vehicles (or whatever).
